What changes the price

Cabinet painting is priced mostly by the number of pieces, not the size of the room:

  • Number of doors and drawer fronts. This is the biggest factor.
  • Islands, pantries, built-ins and bathroom vanities added to the job.
  • Condition. Grease buildup, peeling factory finish or water damage near the sink adds prep.
  • Color change. Going from dark wood to white usually needs primer and full coverage coats.
  • New hardware. Filling old holes and drilling for new pulls adds time.

How a 3-day cabinet job works

Day 1 is prep. Doors and drawer fronts come off and get labeled. Counters, floors and appliances are covered and the kitchen is sealed off with plastic. Everything is degreased and sanded so the paint bonds.

Day 2 is spray. Doors and drawers get two coats of Sherwin-Williams ProClassic, sprayed for a smooth, factory-like finish with no brush marks. The cabinet boxes are painted in place.

Day 3, doors and drawers go back on, and we walk the kitchen with you.

Painting vs. refacing vs. replacing

Painting keeps your existing cabinet boxes and doors and changes the color. It is the lowest-cost option and the fastest, and your kitchen stays usable around the work.

Refacing covers the boxes with new veneer and replaces the doors. Replacing means new cabinets, and usually new countertops and plumbing work too. Both typically cost several times more than painting and take weeks.

Painting is the right call when your cabinets are solid wood or wood veneer and in good shape, and you like the layout. If doors are warped or boxes are water damaged, Julio will tell you during the estimate.

What to ask any cabinet painter

Before you hire anyone, ask:

  • Are doors removed and sprayed, or brushed in place?
  • What product is used? Wall paint on cabinets chips fast.
  • How is the kitchen protected from overspray?
  • How long until the cabinets can be used normally?
  • Is there a written warranty?
